The Central Oregon Springtacular Season!
By: Todd Wisniewski
The Springtacular Season is in full swing in Central Oregon!
We’re excited as we transition into Bend’s ‘secret season’, where the spring brings showers and flowers, as well as every outdoor activity Central Oregon is famous for – without the crowds normally seen during the summer months!
Mt. Bachelor slides into its uniquely and appropriately branded ‘Springtacular‘ season this month, featuring the most spring skiing in the West and the #3 deepest snowpack in the US, ensuring one of the longest winter seasons in North America!
Aside from spring skiing up at Mt. Bachelor, the beauty of the spring season is the weather and conditions that position Bend as the multi-sport mecca of the west. Visitors have the choice to ski and snowboard in the morning, followed by their next-favorite activities in the afternoon taking advantage of the longer daylight hours! Mountain bike hundreds of miles of prime single track, climb world-famous Smith Rock, golf one of 30 area courses, fish, raft, kayak or SUP the Deschutes River (and later this summer – surf the wave park!), or hike one of many area trails.
If you encounter April showers during your trip – don’t let it dowse your adventure; the weather is always good to hike the Bend Ale Trail! Enjoy brew tours on bike or foot, or via a guided Brew Bus with Wanderlust Tours – featuring 26 craft breweries in Central Oregon (and counting)!
Memorial Day Weekend is just around the corner and marks the transition from Spring to Summer – if not in weather, in terms of never-ending events and festivals! Memorial Weekend hosts the Central Oregon Beer Week, featuring daily and nightly events along the aforementioned Bend Ale Trail. This weekend also marks Mt. Bachelor’s closing weekend, featuring the famous Pond Skim Championships!
Memorial Day in Bend is also the kick-off to a stacked lineup of summer concerts at the Les Schwab Amphitheatre, featuring the Decemberists, Spoon, Ryan Adams, and Robert Plant to start off, followed by a multitude of acts and genres such as the Doobie Brothers, Willie Nelson with Alison Krauss, Sheryl Crow, Death Cab for Cutie with Built to Spill, Lyle Lovett, 2 nights with Phish, Michael Franti & Spearhead, and Ben Harper!
So – there is lots to do and plan for with the summer season approaching – however, now is the time take advantage of uncrowded trails, slopes with great deals this spring! Known as the Value Season, discounted lodging rates are in effect at the Pine Ridge Inn until late May, along with reduced lift ticket pricing at Mt. Bachelor, adding up for a great value to come visit and experience ‘Springtacular’ for yourself! Call us anytime to help plan your spring adventure in Bend and Central Oregon.
